The President’s Office announced yesterday that the Union Peace Conference has been scheduled to take place on 12 January 2016 as part of the peaceful solution to national reconciliation, ending armed conflict and solving political disputes through diplomatic means, the Global New Light of Myanmar reported on 19 December.
The nationwide ceasefire, signed on 15 October by eight armed ethnic organisations, required the signatories to pave a way to political dialogue. Accordingly, the framework for political dialogue was finalised on 15 December, thereby setting a date for the Union Peace Conference, the report said.
