A woman in Mandalay faces charges under the new Monogamy Law—one of the four “protection of race and religion laws” passed last year, the Global New Light of Myanmar reported on 8 January quoting police sources.
The 37-year-old, Daw Yin Htay, was charged under section 13 of the Monogamy Law after being discovered living with a man named U Myo Lin Tun while still married to U Kyaw Hsan Win, 35. Daw Yin Htay and U Kyaw Hsan Win had signed a marriage bond in 2003, the report said.
