News of Shwe Mann being thrown out of the USDP days before the historic election has been shot down by U Kyaw Thura from the ruling parties’ head office public relations department.

U Kyaw Thura told Mizzima that the news is false and that the USDP will hold a press conference soon to report this.

Before the USDP announcement, sources close to Shwe Mann told Mizzima that it was “to be confirmed.”

BBC reporter, Jonathan Head tweeted “U Htay Oo confirms Shwe Mann was expelled from USDP 2 days ago. So what happens to his election campaign?” With fellow BBC correspondent, Jonah Fisher tweeting, “BREAKING: U Htay Oo told BBC's @pakhead “Those who no longer serve the party should no longer be member.”

USDP used their official Facebook page some hours later to announce the rumours were false.
