India on Wednesday congratulated the people of Myanmar for the orderly conduct of voting in Sunday's general elections IANS reported on 11 November.
“The government and people of India welcome this significant step towards democracy in a close neighbour with whom we have long historic links,” the external affairs ministry said in a statement.
“We congratulate the people of Myanmar for the orderly conduct of voting and the peaceful and exemplary conduct of the electorate. We trust that the electoral outcome would be respected by all parties.”
The statement also said that as a friendly democratic nation, India sent a three-member team of election observers from the Election Commission of India.
