TV campaigning starts ahead of election

The Mro Ethnic Development Party (MEDP), National Unity Party (NUP) and Lahu National Development Party (LNDP) launched television campaigns on Tuesday the Global New Light of Myanmar reported on 9 September.
The political parties used their 20-minute slots to explain their policies to viewers.
The National Unity Party highlighted its policies on national development, including farmland ownership issues.  The NUP said it also stands for a liberalised trade and commerce sector, with an emphasis on transparency and increased participation of citizens in the private sector. The party also encourages the formation of labour organisations and the signing of employment contracts.
The Mro Ethnic Development Party said that it represents the interests of Mro nationals in Kyauktaw, Mrauk-U, Ponnagyun, Buthitaung, Pauktaw and Yathedaung townships in Rakhine State and Paletwa in Chin State. The party will field six candidates in the general elections in constituencies in Rakhine State. The party places emphasis on equal rights for ethnic minority groups.
The Lahu National Development Party is fielding 29 candidates in townships where the majority of the ethnic group reside. Policies of the party place emphasis on the conservation of languages and traditions of Lahu nationals as well as equal rights for all ethnic groups.
