Myanmar's Union Election Commission (UEC) has delayed the release of nationwide electoral registers to September instead of late August for the upcoming general election scheduled for 8 November, Xinhua reported on 24 August quoting the commission.
The commission had planned to publicize the voters' list nationwide starting 23 August but since deadly flooding hit the country especially in the month of August, the publication of the lists was postponed, it said.
Voters will have 14 days to verify their legitimacy to vote, the commission added.
There are 32 million eligible voters across the country, according to the commission.
Candidates are set to canvass for election in their respective constituencies starting from 8 September to 6 November.
According to a preliminary candidate list announced by the commission over the weekend, a total of 6,189 candidates including 323 independent ones have so far registered to run for the November election.
Of the total, 5,866 candidates are nominated from 93 political parties.
The commission is still scrutinizing the nomination of candidates from political parties and the list of candidates will be finalized by 27 August.
