The crowdfunding effort for the Koh Tao Myanmar murder suspects has fallen foul of a “sudden change of terms and conditions” on the crowdfunding site that now prohibits criminal defense fundraising, according to migrant worker activist Mr Andy Hall, reporting on Facebook on February 18.
According to Mr Hall, the YouCaring fundraising site blocked and removed the appeal for the two Myanmar migrant workers without notice.
The fundraising drive had reached up to around US$15,000 [K15 million] out of a target of $30,000.
Ko Zaw Lin Oo and Ko Wai Phyo [formerly known as Ko Win Zaw Htun] charged with the murder of two British tourists on the Thai resort island of Koh Tao on September 15. Both men claim they are innocent.
Mr Hall said those who wish to support the two Myanmar suspects can donate through two bank accounts under the Migrant Worker Rights Network.
“We are working slowly to set up a new site, fundraising campaign and related joint bank accounts for the new campaign, but due to workload and existing commitments of the team, it shall take some time,” he said. .
Mr Hall put up two bank accounts on his Facebook page www.facebook.com/andy.hall.3110 for those who want to donate to support the legal defence team.
