The National Socialist Council of Nagaland – Khaplang (NSCN-K) based in Sagaing Division, Myanmar, has been accused of killing eight Assam Rifles troops close to the Myanmar border in Nagaland's Mon district. According to media reports the troops had been travelling to fetch water when an improvised explosive device (IED) detonated hitting the truck they were travelling in the ensuing firefight eight were killed and four wounded.  Reports suggest that one rebel was killed and possibly more injured.
The Myanmar government signed a state level ceasefire agreement with the NSCN-K in April 2012 and the group has largely continued all its operations in India. According to a recent article in the Times of India the NSCN-K has revised its strategy by combining with the United Liberation Front of Assam, National Democratic Front of Bodoland (Songbijit) and Meitei groups of Manipur.The NSCN-K chairman SS Khaplang is the chairman of the new front known as the United Liberation Front of West South East Asia.
