The Pyidaungsu Hluttaw has agreed to ink an agreement for Myanmar-Russian military cooperation following discussion of the proposal put forward by President U Htin Kyaw, the Global New Light of Myanmar reported on 11 May.
U Saw Tun Mya Aung of Papun Constituency expressed support for the signing of the military cooperation agreement with the Russian Federation, recounting the situation in the country’s past in which Myanmar fell under the yoke of colonialism as it lagged behind the western imperial powers in industrial and defence technology.
In his discussion, U Tun Wai of Phaungpyin Constituency stressed the need for building up the Myanmar Tatmadaw to become a standardised, modern and effective defence force for the country, the report said.
