Myanmar State Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi is attending the APEC-ASEAN dialogue, on the sidelines of the 25th Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit (APEC), in Danang, Vietnam.
In her role as foreign minister, Suu Kyi is taking part in the regional Asia-Pacific meeting ahead of flying to the Philippines for the 31st ASEAN Summit.
The APEC summit brings together world leaders from its 21 member nations. It is the second time Vietnam is hosting the summit, the first was in 2006.
Suu Kyi has been under the international spotlight over the last few months following criticism that she is failing to prevent the abuse of Rohingya Muslims in Rakhine State.
The Myanmar leader has reportedly been meeting various national leaders and is likely to meet US President Donald Trump.
Vietnam President Tran Dai Quang received the Myanmar State Counsellor on November 9 on the sidelines of the ongoing APEC meeting, according to Nhan Dan media.
The Vietnamese President congratulated Myanmar on recent socio-economic progress with a belief in the country’s success in its national reconciliation process and position improvement in the regional and global stage. He took note of the new development in Vietnam–Myanmar ties, particularly after the state visit made by General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong to Myanmar in late August, according to the news service.
He said during the visit, bilateral relations were lifted to comprehensive cooperative partnership and several agreements were signed, Nhan Dan reported.
