The Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi will pay an official visit to Myanmar from Tuesday to Wednesday, according to Chinese media.
Mr Wang is visiting at the invitation of Myanmar's new Foreign Minister, Aung San Suu Kyi.
Aung San Suu Kyi was initially given four portfolios in the new government, including Minister of Foreign Affairs and Minister of the President's Office.
Myanmar's new President Htin Kyaw has submitted a proposal to the Union Parliament, taking two other portfolios away from Suu Kyi - the positions of Minister of Education and Minister of Electric Power and Energy.
The visit, coming so soon after the setting up of the new Myanmar government, is significant. Mr Wang will have a host of issues to discuss with the new Nay Pyi Taw government including ongoing development projects and Chinese investment, and the stalled Myitsone Dam project, put on hold by former President Thein Sein in 2011 over environmental and social concerns.
