The Government of India is assisting Myanmar in strengthening its army so that the bases of anti-Indian government insurgent groups based in Myanmar can be evicted, The Assam Tribune reported on 4 September.
Highly placed sources in the Government of India were quoted as telling The Assam Tribune that Myanmar appreciated India’s concern on the issue of the militant groups of the Northeast having bases in the country and assured the Indian Government that action would be taken to deal with the problem.
According to the report, India is providing logistical help to Myanmar to strengthen its army, which includes the supply of modern weapons, defence equipment and helicopters.
