General Chavalit Yongchaiyudh, the Deputy Prime Minister of Thailand submitted his resignation to the Prime Minister's office today.

In his resignation letter Chavalit said that he had to take the responsibility for the use of force by the police against protesters n front of the Parliament building on Tuesday morning.

Chavalit admitted that he was partly responsible for the damage that has been done during the crackdown despite making all efforts to restore peace in Thai society, daily newspaper Bangkok Post said on its website.

Reportedly, at least 70 people were injured as police fired tear gas shells to disperse anti-government protesters.

One of the leaders of the People's Alliance for Democracy (PAD), leading the protests, Somsak Khosaisuk urged other anti-government protesters all over the country to join them in Bangkok.

The arrest of two PAD leaders, of the nine PAD leaders, who have arrest warrants against them, Chaiwat Sinsuwong and Chamlong has boosted the anti-government movement launched by the PAD.
