Nine activists sentenced to lengthy prison terms |

Chiang Mai - Nine activists who participated in the September 2007 uprising have been given jail sentences ranging from 8 to 24 years, according to colleagues.
The nine activists were charged for illegally crossing international borders, associating and communicating with illegally formed organizations and inciting a threat to national security – in addition to being charged under the printing press act.
A close friend of the nine activists said he was told of the verdict of Rangoon's notorious Insein prison court by a prison official as he was trying to gain access to the court session.
According to him, Pyih Phyo Hlaing was sentenced to 24 years, Nay Linn Aung to 22 years, Pyih Phyo Aung, Nyan Linn Tun, Thein Zaw, Aung Myo Paing and Phyo Maung Muang Soe to 10 years each and Thiha Thet Zin and Thiha Aung Aung to 8 years each.
