Bangkok (Mizzima) - Members of Aung San Suu Kyi led the National League for Democracy (NLD) and their family members on Thursday held a birthday celebration in absentia for detained party vice-chairman Tin Oo.

Dr. Tin Moe Wai, wife of retired Gen Tin Oo, on Thursday held a reception at the NLD office in commemoration of her husband’s 82nd birthday.

Tin Oo was last arrested in May 2003, while on a political tour in upper Burma along with Nobel Peace Laureate Aung San Suu Kyi, when a junta-backed mob attacked their motorcade in Debeyin town in Sagaing division.

He was initially taken to a prison in Kalemyo town in upper Sagaing division but in 2004 transferred to Rangoon and was placed under house arrest.

Similarly, Burma’s pro-democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi was also arrested in May 2003 and is under house arrest.
