New Delhi (Mizzima) – Police in Rangoon say they have arrested and are presently interrogating a suspect to a murder that occurred earlier this month in Burma's former capital.

The suspect, who is said to be a middle-aged man and a resident of Rangoon, was arrested on April 15th and is currently being held at the Botahtaung township police station, an officer at the station told Mizzima.

“I cannot reveal much regarding his identity because he is an important suspect, and we fear for his security. We are now conducting interrogations and everything should be made public soon,” the police officer explained.

On April 2nd, Aye Aye Win, age 43, a daughter of an influential ex-officer of the now defunct military intelligence (MI), and her husband, Khin Maung Lay, age 46, a sailor who had recently applied for the position of marine navigator, were found dead at their residence in Rangoon's Botahtaung township.

The decaying bodies were later found by neighbors, who then alerted the police.

On March 30th, at approximately 11 p.m., neighbors said they heard a commotion in the house and a woman screaming "Kill me. Kill me”.

The couple, who reportedly had no children, were discovered dead two days after the commotion. Few details of the case have been made known to the public, though police maintain they have a good lead following the arrest of the suspect.
