Migrants sent back to Burma

Mae Sot (Mizzima) - Scores of illegal Burmese immigrants were crammed into trucks and expelled from this city in Thailand this morning, just five kilometers from the Burmese border. The police arbitrarily searched the busy market quarter of the town in the morning demanding to see identification and arresting those without papers. An itinerant worker, whose mother was sent back to the border and sent home via the Thai-Burma Friendship Bridge, said: “It doesn’t matter, I’ll go meet her at the bridge in the morning and she can come home.” His boss concurred: “No problem, very easy for her to come back.”   < Prev   Next >
