Rangoon – The charges framed against detained opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi, the trial and her transfer to the notorious Insein prison in Rangoon has caught the serious attention of the people, who are widely outraged and are keenly monitoring unfolding events.
About 50 local residents told Mizzima that they are outraged by the ruling junta’s decision to press charges and to conduct a trial on AUng San Suu Kyi saying they are keenly waiting for the outcome of the trial to be held on Monday.
Most people said that they believed the Nobel Peace Laureate would have been released from house arrest by the end of May, if the incident, in which an American citizen intruded into her house, had not occurred.
The peoples’ anger mainly rested on John William Yettaw, who swam across the Innya Lake to sneak into the residence of Aung San Suu Kyi, where he stayed for three nights.
