Chiang Mai - A former hardcore member of Burma’s State Peace and Development Council (SPDC) Lt-Gen Maung Bo on Friday died in Singapore General Hospital afflicted with liver cancer.

Lt-Gen Maung Bo ( 65) who graduated from the officer training batch 31 with a private number of 10337, expired at about 9:45 p.m (local time).

The chief inspector of Burmese armed forces – Army, Navy, and Airforce – Lt-Gen Maung Bo retired on June 20, 2008.

He was also known to have a close relationship with Burma’s military chief Senior General Than Shwe and has been given priority among other ranks of the military.

He was also known as a man with a bad temper and acted impulsively during his service in the military.

His body is currently in Nyein Aye hall in Rangoon’s Mingalardon military base and will be cremated on Sunday, May 17, at 1 p.m (local time) at the Mingalardon military cemetery.
