Chiang Mai (Mizzima) – US diplomats visiting Burma met detained opposition leader Aung San SUu Kyi at the Innya Lake Hotel in Rangoon on Wednesday morning.

Eyewitnesses said US Assistant Secretary of State, Kurt Campbell and US ambassador to the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Scot Marciel arrived at the meeting venue at 11:30 a.m. (local time). Aung San Suu Kyi arrived about 10 minutes later.

The two US diplomats are visiting military-ruled Burma for a two-day fact-finding mission as part of the US’s direct engagement with the regime. On Tuesday the diplomats visited the new capital Naypyitaw and met several top officials of the junta.
