New Delhi (Mizzima) – Cash and goods worth millions of Kyats were looted from a shop in Rangoon’s San Chuang Township and the owner assaulted in a daring robbery on December 20.

A police officer in San Chuang Township told Mizzima on Tuesday that the burglars broke into a clothes shop, “Devi”, located on Pathein Street, Kyundaw Ward on Sunday evening and robbed the shop after beating up the owner.

“The robbery occurred in a shop on Pathein Street in the evening,” the police officer said. He, however, refused to give details of the incident saying it is still under investigation.

The store owner confirmed the incident but he too refused to provide details.

“The police are investigating, so I do not want to divulge details now as it might hamper the investigation,” the shop owner told Mizzima.

According to other shop owners on Pathein Street, the burglary occurred at about 6 p.m. (local time). The shop owner lost 8 million kyat (USD 8,000 approximately).
