Popular Vocalist Sai Htee Hseng Dies

Chiang Mai – Famous singer Sai Htee Hseng died this morning in Rangoon.

The ethnic-Shan singer, aged 58, passed away at 5:45 a.m. this morning in Rangoon General Hospital’s Peptic and Intestinal Diseases ward.

He also served as Vice-Chairman of the Shan Culture and Literature Association in Rangoon.

He graduated from Mandalay Agriculture University and became famous in Burma through his rendition of the song 'A Shan in Mandalay,' written by his ethnic colleague Sai Kham Late.

He was born in September 1949 in Yakha, Lin Khay Township, Shan State. He was the second eldest of five children born to a meditation instructor and school teacher.

He is survived by his wife, Than Than Soe, one son and one daughter. A cremation ceremony will be held at Yeyay Cemetery on the 12th of this month.
