New Delhi (Mizzima) – A motor boat carrying about 40 people capsized near Pauktaw Township in northwestern Arakan State on Sunday while going to a wedding ceremony, killing five people including a child.

Four women and a child, age 13, died in the incident, according to a resident. The motor boat, traveling from Taungnyo village to Pauktaw, capsized about 1 p.m.

'The corpses were sent to the Pauktaw Hospital at around 5 p.m. on Sunday. I went to the hospital to investigate the incident’, Tet Tun Aung, an MP of the Rakhine Nationalities and Development Party, told Mizzima. The bodies were cremated on Monday, he said.

The driver of the boat has fled, and police are search for him, he said.
