The tree fell on three light trucks, a bus and two cars.

Thandar Cho, 42, a passenger on the bus, suffered a leg injury.

‘Her injury is not serious. She was sent to a nearby clinic in Hlaing Township’, said a Red Cross official. Damage was estimated at 10 million kyat (about US$ 1,500), according to the official.

The banyan tree was 18 feet in circumference and about 60 feet in height. Four lampposts were also damaged.

A witness said, ‘The people who were in one of the trucks parked under the banyan tree were lucky. It’s lucky only one person was injured’.

More than 160 employees of the Rangoon Region Fire Department, Red Cross, Rangoon Municipality and the Electrical Department cleared the debris.
