Chiang Mai (Mizzima) – National League for Democracy General- Secretary Aung San Suu Kyi–accompanied by a government official–went to the Martyrs’ Mausoleum on Tuesday to pay homage to fallen national heroes including her father, independence hero Aung San, on Martyrs’ Day.
She appeared at the Martyrs’ Mausoleum through an arrangement with the Home Affairs Ministry, according to Win Htein, an NLD official.
“The authorities took Aung San Suu Kyi to the mausoleum to lay a wreath as a part of a special arrangement for family members of fallen heroes. An official from the Home Affairs Ministry took her,” Win Htein told Mizzima.
To commemorate the 64th Martyrs’ Day, Suu Kyi offered food to 10 monks at her home on the University Avenue early Tuesday morning. The NLD vice chairman also attended the food donation ceremony.
Similarly, NLD members led by central executive committee members Than Tun, Hla Pe and May Win Myint offered food to five monks at NLD headquarters in Shwegondine Township, Rangoon, to mark Martyrs’ Day.
Later Tuesday, a ceremony will be held at NLD headquarters and members will march to the Martyrs’ Mausoleum.
