Chiangmai – The United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, after arriving in Burma's former capital Rangoon, met Burmese Prime Minister Lt-Gen Thein Sein on Thursday.

The UN Chief met the Burmese premier after praying at Burma's holiest shrine the Shwedagon Pagoda.

Either side is  yet to disclose details of the discussions that have begun.

The world body chief, whose mission to Burma is to persuade the military rulers to allow relief supplies and aid workers greater access to the cyclone hit regions, will later travel to the Irrawaddy delta to see the scale of devastation caused by the cyclone.

Ban Ki-moon is also expected to meet Burma's junta supremo Senior General Than Shwe in Burma's new jungle capital city of Naypyitaw on Friday.
