Woman killed in Rangoon bomb blast

Rangoon (Mizzima) – A bomb exploded in a public toilet near the corner of Pyay Road and University Avenue Road in Rangoon at about 11 a.m. on Wednesday, killing one woman about 20 years old. Another woman was injured.

Police told onlookers that there was an unexploded bomb and to leave the area. Bomb-sniffing dogs and bomb detection devices were brought into the area.

The bomb exploded on the women’s side of a public toilet, heavily damaging the roof.  

“We could hear the sound from near the Marlar Hostel bus stop,” a source told Mizzima. “The toilet was built with aluminum. Its roof was turned up. One person was taken to the hospital via ambulance.”  

Traffic was blocked off at the Rangoon University road area of University Avenue Road and Pyay Road.
