South Korea FM to visit Burma, Thailand

(Mizzima) – South Korean foreign minister Kim Sung-hwan will visit Burma on Tuesday for two days to discuss expanding bilateral ties and regional issues.

On Monday, Kim is scheduled to meet with his Thai counterpart Surapong Tovichakchaikul to discuss expanding cooperation on energy, resources and infrastructure building.

In Burma, Kim will hold talks with his counterpart Wunna Maung Lwin on economic and economic cooperation and personnel exchanges between the two countries.

During the trip, the first by South Korea's top diplomat since 1985, Kim will also meet with President Thein Sein.

Since October this year, Burma has been in a state of civil war, with fighting between Burmese military and armed ethnic rebels. The ruling junta started a crackdown on these armed groups.
