PLA deputy leader to visit Burma

A Chinese People's Liberation Army delegation led by Deputy Chief of General Staff Ma Xiaotian will pay an official goodwill visit to Burma this week.

He will also tour Vietnam, Malaysia and Singapore.

During the visits, Ma will attend the sixth defense and security consultation between China's and Vietnam's defense ministries, the first defense and security consultation between the Chinese and Malaysian defense ministries, as well as the fourth defense policy dialogue between the Chinese and Singaporean defense ministries.

Since October this year, Burma has been in a state of civil war, with fighting between Burmese military and armed ethnic rebels. The ruling junta started a crackdown on these armed groups.
