Small quake hits Kachin State

A minor 4.7 earthquake on the Richter scale struck Burma’s northernmost Kachin State on Sunday morning, according to Burma’s Hydrology and Meteorology Department.

The epicenter was 392 kilometers north of Mandalay and 72 km west of Myitkyina, the capital of Kachin State. The quake occurred at 3:14 a.m. local time, sources said.

There were no immediate reports of casualties ie damages to property as the quake struck in less-populated mountainous area.

The Kachin’s last stand
Since October this year, Burma has been in a state of civil war, with fighting between Burmese military and armed ethnic rebels. The ruling junta started a crackdown on these armed groups.
