The United Nationalities Federal Council issued a joint-statement on November 1 along with the exiled pro-democracy alliance, National Council of the Union of Burma, in calling for Burma’s President Thein Sein and the Burmese army to cease all offensives and conflicts unconditionally, including the war in Kachin State.

The statement also announced both groups’ intention to work together “to accomplish much needed political and legal reform and achieve sustainable results before the 2015 elections.”
