Burma to sign IAEA protocol

Burma will sign the "additional protocol” to the International Atomic Energy Agency's Comprehensive Safeguards Agreements and give effect to the modified standardized text of the Small Quantities Protocol, according to a statement released by the government’s information committee. Burmese President Thein Sein has reportedly approved the measure, which will now be forwarded to Parliament for final approval.

Since October this year, Burma has been in a state of civil war, with fighting between Burmese military and armed ethnic rebels. The ruling junta started a crackdown on these armed groups.
