Two more US military aircraft to bring more aid to Burma

Burma has given the green signal allowing two more US military aircraft to fly into the country with relief supplies, the USAID administrator Ms. Henrietta Fore said on Monday. Ms. Fore said while the C-130 planes are being allowed to land with relief supplies, the Burmese government has not given visas to the US rescue teams and aid workers. During a press conference in Bangkok's 4 Season Hotel this afternoon, Ms. Fore said the Burmese government has not promised to allow more US aid flights into the country. She added that the two C-130 planes will fly to Burma with more aid supplies and that the USAID will continue engaging the Burmese junta to let further aid reach the country. The first US military flight today landed at Rangoon international airport at about 2:00 p.m. (local time) and handed over relief material to the Burmese authorities. The trip was the first humanitarian aid from the US for the cyclone affected Burmese people and is the first trip of a US military plane supplying humanitarian aid. < Prev   Next >
