Chiang Mai - Resumption of Air Mandalay's Rangoon-Chiang Mai weekly flight remains uncertain. Flights were suspended nearly a month ago for mechanical maintenance.

Flights of Air Mandalay airline from Rangoon to Chiang Mai, in southern Thailand was temporarily halted in the second week of September ostensibly to carry out repairs. Resumption seems uncertain thought it was stated earlier that flights would resume in early October.

"We will know by the end of the month when flights can be resumed. The aircrafts are still under repair and we are not sure when it will be completed," an official in Air Mandalay's office in Mandalay said.

However, a Thai woman staff member in Air Mandalay's office in Chiang Mai said that flights would resume on October 30 but added that there is an element of uncertainty and only high ranking officials could talk about the exact date.

Mizzima got in touch with Air Mandalay's main office in Rangoon where a woman official said "The flights will resume but at present, the aircrafts are being repaired. We had said we can resume by the end of this month.  But the repairs are yet to be completed".

Two ATR 72 and one ATR 42 aircraft used to fly to Rangoon, Mandalay, Hehoe, Tavee, Myaik, Kawthaung, Sittwe, Thantwe and Tarchileik and from Rangoon to Chiang Mai, in Thailand.

After the Rangoon-Chiang Mai flight was suspended there were rumours that Air Bagan airlines would buy Air Mandalay. However, an official from the public relations department of Air Mandalay airline has denied the rumours.
