New Delhi (Mizzima) – A fire broke out in a private fuel shop, which is located near the head office of detained opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi's National League for Democracy in Rangoon today.
An official at Rangoon's Central Fire Department told Mizzima that the fire had broken out in a private fuel shop, which sells petrol and diesel in the black market, near the NLD office. However, there were no serious damages or casualties.
"Yes, the fire broke out at around 3:15 pm but there are no casualties," the official said, "The damage is not much as it is just a small shop."
The official, however, failed to pinpoint the cause of the fire. "We are still looking for what could have caused the fire," he said.
Security personnel cordoned off the area soon after the fire broke out in the fuel shop, which openly sells fuel in the black market, despite monitoring by the military intelligence. The intelligence department keeps a close watch on the area since the NLD's office is located there.
"Only plainclothes MI people can run shops near the NLD office," an eyewitness said.
Nyan Win, spokesperson of the NLD, said there were around three fuel shops near their office.
