New Delhi – The United Nations Special Rapporteur Tomas Ojea Quintana on Wednesday met detained popular comedian Zargarnar in Myitkyina prison in Northern Burma's Kachin state, family sources and prison authorities told Mizzima.
 
Quintana on Wednesday paid a late visit to Myitkyina prison in Northern Burma's Kachin State and met detained comedian Zarganar, a family source said.
 
"Quintana met Zarganar late in the evening on Wednesday but we don't have detailed information," Zargarnar's relative told Mizzima.
 
When contacted, a prison official in Myitkyina prison told Mizzima that the UN envoy had paid a late evening visit to the prison but he declined to give detailed information.
 
The UN office in Rangoon said Quintana on Thursday re-visited Naypyitaw, Burma's new jungle capital.
 
Quintana, who on Wednesday met several Burmese officials including the Chief Justice, Attorney General and the Foreign Minister in Naypyitaw. However, is still not sure who he will be meeting during his second visit to Naypyitaw on Thursday.
 
Sources said the visiting UN envoy has also requested a meeting with detained opposition leader Daw Aung San Suu Kyi but so far there has been no confirmation from the junta allowing him a meeting with her.
 
According to the UN, Quintana will wind-up his six-day visit to Burma on Thursday. He is scheduled to hold a press conference at the Mingalardone International Airport before leaving Rangoon.
