Chiang Mai (Mizzima) – A speeding army truck collided with a passenger bus and then hit a lamp-post in the middle of the road, in downtown Rangoon, at about 2 pm, on Friday.

The army truck, with license plate No. 4101 Ba, was plying along Phonegyi Street in Lanmadaw Township, when it collided with a commuter bus from 'Shwe Eithe No. 2' Bus Co. with license plate No. (7 Kha/9680), at the Phonegyi Street junction.

The army truck first hit the rear door of the passenger bus. Then it crashed into it again on the  rear right side. The bus turned turtle and was dragged along for about 15 feet.

The speeding army truck stopped, only after hitting a lamp-post near the Soemoekyaw and Waingwaingle lottery shop and Lanmadaw police station.

The accident occurred, when the traffic lamps were not working due to power failure, according to eyewitnesses and passengers on the bus.

The bonnet of the army truck was smashed and the rear portion of the passenger bus was severely damaged. The windows of the bus were shattered and the rear door was ripped apart.

The passengers were rescued by the Lanamdaw police from the emergency exit in the rear of the bus, as the front door had jammed.
