Eleven injured in explosion in Taungup, Arakan

New Delhi (Mizzima) – Eleven people were injured in an explosion in Sarpyin Village of Taungup Township in Burma’s western Arakan state on Sunday evening, local residents said. A local in Sarpyin told Mizzima on Monday that a loud noise was heard at about 8 p.m. (local time) on Sunday. Eleven people were injured in the blast. Three were taken to hospital as they sustained severe injuries. “The noise was extremely loud, but no casualties have been reported so far. The victims were taken to Taungup hospital. Eight of the 11 sustained minor injuries. Three, who had serious injuries, are hospitalised as in-ward patients,” the local added. While it is still not clear what kind of explosives caused the blast, the local added that the police have apprehended a suspect. “We have been ordered to investigate,” an official at the Taungup Township police station told Mizzima.
