New Delhi – Authorities at the Mandalay Technological University are transferring graduate research scholars to locations across Burma, according to a student source in the university.
Beginning last month, MTU has relocated several Ph.D. scholars to various research centers, including to Ayela Research Centre near Burma's new capital and to Datdaw Research Centre near Pyin Oo Lwin, a town east of Mandalay and close to the site of the junta's envisioned new cyber-city, the student from MTU said.

"Since last month many students have been sent for research to these places," the student, who is also a Ph.D. scholar, told Mizzima.

"We will also be sent to a research center, but we don't know when and where we will be sent," added the student.

MTU, previously known as Mandalay Institute of Technology, was transformed into a University in 2002 and maintains an annual student intake of at least 300 students.

Though several Ph.D. scholars have been transferred and more similar moves are in the pipeline, the student commented that Masters students are still in the university and classes for them remain unchanged.
