Internet users are complaining that Gmail users in internet cafes are facing problems logging on to the mail server.

Though the reason is not clear, server error messages are appearing on screen frequently and the users are having to try many times to log on to this popular mail server and have to wait for a long time.

"There were error messages appearing on screen when users logged on to this mail server. It's been on for one week. When a user types Gmail in the internet explorer address field the error message appears. They have to try many times; sometimes they succeed and sometimes they fail," an internet café owner from Hledan junction, whose ISP is Bagan Cybetech told Mizzima.

"It takes at least five minutes to log on to your Gmail account after typing your ID and password. They must reduce the file size when they want to try and send attached files. But they cannot reduce the photo files much and it takes longer to send," he added.

Following this difficulty in logging on to Gmail, the number of internet users in internet cafes has drastically fallen, according to internet café owners in downtown Rangoon.

"The users came down by 40 per cent compared to the earlier numbers," a staff from an internet café said.

Though users in Rangoon lodged complaints to ISPs such as Myanmar Info-Tech, Myanmar Post and Telecommunication repeatedly and complained of problems in logging on to Gmail and GTalk, there was no response from the internet service providers.
