Chiang Mai – Two bank robbers, who stabbed a bank employee to death and looted the Myanmar Economic Bank, Thingagyun Branch in Rangoon have been arrested.

The accused are Zaw Gyi and Than Htwe from Thingangyun. They were nabbed on 25th and 28th April respectively from separate hideouts, 'Myanmar Ahlin' (New Light of Myanmar) reported on Wednesday.

On April 8, the robbers injured bank manager U Khin Aye and accountant U Aye Kyaing.  Supervisor U Sein Shwe Maung died of stab injuries to his chest during the robbers quest to loot the bank.

According to an earlier report received by Mizzima, the robbers looted about Kyat 900 million, but the state-run paper did not mention the amount.

The official report says the accused have a long record of criminal cases including murder and armed assault with swords. Currently they are fugitives, obstructing the discharge of duty by public servants by obstructing police personnel in Thingangyun Township.

Zaw Gyi a.k.a. Zaw Zaw Htun was arrested on April 25 at about 11:30 p.m. from his elder sister's residence located in North Okkalapa, G-Ward, Thunandar 9th Street, No. 174. The other accused Than Htwe was arrested on April 28 at about 5:30 a.m. from his hideout in Dagon Myothit Township (South) 56th Ward, Industrial Zone No. 1, Oo Oo noodle factory.

Though the two bank robbers were arrested within 20 days of their crime, the police are yet to solve another high-profile crime of multiple murders in Kamyut Township, two months ago.

In this case, merchant U Charlie, and his three family members and a housemaid were shot dead in cold blood by unknown assailants.
