New Delhi - An elderly woman in Burma's former capital Rangoon was found dead in her residence-cum tailoring shop in Hledan Street in Kamayut Township on Monday morning.

"The body of the woman (60) was found tied-up when her neighbour went to wake her up this morning," Mizzima's undercover correspondent, who visited the murder site, said.

At least four police vehicles from Kamayut police station rushed to the spot and sealed off the area, the correspondent said.

While the circumstances leading to the murder and who was behind it, is still not known, neighbours said, the woman's murder was only discovered in the morning.

"She was found tied up by a woman who is a neighbour. She went to her house at about 9:30 a.m. when she did not open her tailoring shop," the correspondent said.

The police have, reportedly started an investigation.

While such murder cases are rare in Burma, in March, five people were murdered in Rangoon's University Avenue, near the residence of Burma's pro-democracy leader Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, where she is now being detained.
