Sittwe (Mizzima) – The Arakan Liberation Party (ALP) opened its first liaison office in Kyauktaw, Arakan (Rakhine) State, on Monday to coordinate peacekeeping and development with the government.
ALP secretary Saw Mya Yar Zar Lin, Rakhine State Security and Border Affairs Minister Col. Htein Lin and Rakhine State Chief Justice Hla Thein took part in the opening ceremony with about 700 people attending the event.
One of the aims of the liaison office is to hold “union level” peace talks and to support development, said Khaing Aung Soe Than, the leader of the organizing committee. In April, the ALP conducted peace negotiations with the government.
The ALP was founded in Rangoon in 1967, and its arm-wing was founded in 1974.
