New Delhi - Detained Burmese opposition leader Daw Aung San Suu Kyi on Monday was allowed a rare meeting with her lawyer, the first since UN special envoy left the country weeks ago, her party spokesperson said.

Nyan Win, spokesperson for Aung San Suu Kyi's National League for Democracy party on Monday told Mizzima that her meeting with lawyer Kyi Win begun at about 9:15 in the morning and lasted for nearly 30 minutes.

"As far as I know, Daw Aung San Suu Kyi told her lawyer that her health is fine, but she had lost weight and need sometime to rest," Nyan Win said.

Nyan Win said, Aung San Suu Kyi will be visited by her family doctor Tin Myo Win, on September 4, who then will conduct a check-up on her health.

"She got agreement with the government to allow a once-a-month visit by her doctor. Her doctor last visited her on August 17 and will be allowed again to visit her on September 4," he added.

Aung San Suu Kyi's meeting with her lawyer on Monday came amidst swirling speculations over the information of her hunger strike after she reportedly refused to accept the once-a-week food supplies.

While Nyan Win failed to confirm of the information on her hunger strike, lawyer Kyi Win could not be immediately contacted to confirm of the information.

The 63 years old, Aung San Suu Kyi has been on the sixth year of continuous detention since she was last arrested in May 2003, after a brutal attacked on her motorcade during a political tour in upper Burma.

She has been detained for over the 12 of the past 19 years.
