Protests Over Referendum In Malaysia

A demonstration was staged by Burmese opposition groups in Malaysia this morning against the ongoing voting for the referendum in the Burmese embassy in Kuala Lumpur.

The protesters had the word 'NO' emblazoned on their shirts. They stood silently for about half an hour in front of the Burmese embassy in Kuala Lumpur.

The protest started at about 11:15 a.m.. The protesters remained there for 10 minutes after the Malaysian police stopped them.

Today is the fifth day of polling. The polling in Malaysia started on April 19 and is to conclude on April 27 between 9 a.m.to 5 p.m.

"I have voted No. I hope all Burmese people will have the same opinion as me. I went there because I don't like oppression." said one of the voters.
