New Delhi (Mizzima) - Burma’s Prime Minister, General Thein Sein, arrived in Singapore on Tuesday as part of an official visit to the city-state, according to the Singapore Foreign Ministry.
An official at the Singapore Foreign Ministry said, the Burmese Premier and a delegation arrived in Singapore on Tuesday from Jakarta, where the Burmese team had been visiting before arriving in Singapore.
Although the official declined to provide further details, a statement by the Singaporean Foreign Ministry said, Thein Sein would meet Lee Hsien Loong, who would be hosting an official dinner on Tuesday and he would also call on acting President J Y Pillay.
Thein Sein will meet Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong too, the statement said.
The Burmese Premier, who is accompanied by five ministers and two deputy ministers, along with several other departmental heads and businessmen, on Sunday, began a visit to Indonesia, where he met President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono.
Meanwhile, even as Indonesia’s Foreign Ministry refused to reveal details of the meeting, reports suggested that Thein Sein and Yudhoyono discussed issues, including economic ties and Rohingya asylum seekers, who had been stranded in Indonesia’s Aceh province.
Reportedly, Thein Sein said Burma was willing to accept the Rohingya people, if they could prove that they were residents of Burma.
Thein Sein, who is accompanied by at least 50 delegates, will conclude his visit on March 18.
