Dhaka (Mizzima) – Bangladesh has handed over a Burmese soldier who strayed into Bangladeshi territory back to Burma.

The Bangladeshi army unit led by Capt. Nurul Jahel handed over Sgt. Tun Tun (27) from 550^th GE to a Burmese team led by Maj. Thu Rein Zaw from Burmese Border Inspection and Supervision (Na Sa Ka), No. 5 Region at Khong Tone area in Oo Kier Township on January 4^th.

The patrol team from Bangladesh's 42^nd Bangladesh Rifle (BDR) found Burmese Sgt. Tun Tun on the 3^rd of this month on a schooner docked near Ni Lar village, Oo Kier Township, 40 Km south of Cox 's Bazar in Bangladesh.

The Burmese Sergeant was dressed in uniform and equipped with arms when he gave his statement to the Bangladeshi authority, saying that he had strayed into the Bangladeshi territory after his schooner broke down.

A Bangladeshi soldier said, “We have handed him over to the Burmese side along with his arms and 106 rounds of ammunition”.
