Charm Tong And Ohnmar Awarded Global Leadership Prize

Chiang Mai – Two women pro-democracy and human rights activists from Burma have been awarded the 'Global Leadership Awards' given annually to brilliant women across the world. The award list for '2008 Global Leadership Awards' was announced on the NGO 'Vital Voices Global Partnership' internet webpage. In this list, human rights activist Nam Charm Tong and pro-democracy activist Daw Khin Ohnmar were included along with four other women from around the world.

The NGO has over 1,000 members including senior government officials and women leaders. It as provided leadership training to over 5,000 women from 150 countries since 1997. The award ceremony will be held on the 7th of this month and First Lady Laura Bush will be resent at the ceremony and give away the prizes.

Along with the two women from Burma, French woman senior reporter Mariane Pearl of Wall treet Journal, UAE Foreign Trade Minister Shiekha Lubna al Qasimi, anti-corruption ampaigner Laura Alonso from Argentina and women empowerment campaigner Kenyan akenya Ntaiya have also received the prize for 2008.

The prize is for women across the world who are brave and are into promoting human rights at he grassroots level. It is also for women who have devoted their whole life for the human race ith their smartness, brilliance and intellect.

Global Leadership Awards have been awarded so far to 32 women across the world since 2002.
