The members of Border Guard of Bangladesh have detained 108 Rohingya migrants, who entered Bangladesh illegally through the Balukhali border of Ukhia with the help of traffickers, reports the Dhaka Tribune on March 6.
A BGB official was shot in a gunfight with the traffickers during the operation on March 6.
Commander of BGB 17 battalion Lieutenant Colonel Khandaker Saiful Alam said the traffickers brought the Rohingya migrants to Bangladesh and put them into two cars to send them to Kutupalang camp.
“The BGB detained the Rohingyas before they were sent to the camp which is when the gun battle with the traffickers began,” he said.
Lieutenant Colonel Saiful said the detainees would be sent back to Myanmar.
