Yangon region govt proposes K8,000 billion city development plan

The Yangon region government has its local parliament for over K8,000 billion [US$8 billion] to develop seven areas Myanmar’s commercial capital.  
Yangon City Mayor U Hla Myint, speaking on behalf of the regional government, told parliament that urban development projects will be implemented in the eastern and southeastern parts of Yangon, as well as in Thanlyin, Dala, Htantabin, Hmawbi and Hlegu townships.
While submitting the “Yangon City Development Strategic Plan 2040 Report” to parliament, the mayor said the urban development projects are aimed to address the problems of the homeless, squatters, traffic congestion and a rise in population density.
Chairman of Yangon region parliament U Sein Tin Win agreed to discuss the proposal on 19 June, and invited suggestions from regional parliamentarians by 15 June.
The proposal will be decided through a vote on 19 June.
Daw Nyo Nyo Thin, Yangon region MP, told reporters that the development funds should be used properly, responsibly and transparently.
The estimated costs for urban development projects in seven areas are as follows:
New city in eastern Yangon of 17,375 acres at an estimated cost of K481.23 billion
New city in southwestern Yangon of 21,716 acres and an estimated cost of K3,070.6 billion.
New city in Thanlyin, Yangon of 21,193 acres and an estimated cost of K926.52 billion
New city in Dala, Yangon of 5,137 acres and an estimated cost of K1,868.77 billion
New city in Htantabin, Yangon of 24,748 acres and an estimated cost of K1,262.87 billion
Hmawbi Township, Yangon of 11,594 acres and an estimated cost of K271.97 billion
Hlegu Township, Yangon of 6,933 acres and an estimated cost of K285.55 billion.
